Orientation and Film Show of Japanese Animation

The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture & Heritage and The Japan Foundation in cooperation with The Embassy of Japan will hold an Orientation and Film show of Japanese Animation at 6:00pm on 27 March 2008, at Cultural Foundation Baynounah Hall.
The lecture will be held by Mr. Shinichiro Watanabe who is a famous Japanese animation director.
This event is for those who are interested in Animation or Cartoons field. Seats are limited (about 120 seats). If it exceeds the capacity of the hall, it will be served on first come, first served basis.

Japanese Handicrafts Exhibition
14 - 22 January 2008
In collaboration with The Japan Foundation and The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage held “Japanese Handicrafts Exhibition” at Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation from 14 to 22 January 2008. During the exhibition, around 90 items of Japanese Ceramics, Textiles, Lacquer wares, bamboo crafts and glasses made by both artisans and craft artists were displayed. The hand crafted objects were made from traditional materials with traditional techniques from all over Japan. A tea ceremony was demonstrated, and workshops for Japanese Calligraphy, “Origami” and handicrafts were presented. Many people visited the place and enjoyed the diversity and richness of Japanese culture.

Japanese Drum Concert by Joji Hirota Taiko Emsemble

The Japan Foundation with collaboration of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage hosted “Joji Hirota Taiko ensemble” Japanese Drams Group on 26 November 2007. The group, which consists of 3 artists, presented beautiful and powerful sounds of Japanese drums in harmony with other Japanese traditional instruments such as “Shakuhachi”, a transverse folk bamboo flute, and “Dora”, a gong. The event was attended by more then 500 people.

A Lecture by Mr. Mutsuyoshi Nisimura
The Embassy of Japan in cooperation with Higher Colleges of Technology Abu Dhabi Men’s College held a lecture by Mr. Mutsuyoshi Nisimura (Former Ambassador of Japan for Global Environment) on 18 November 2007 at Abu Dhabi Men’s College campus.
The lecture was about “Climate & Energy Technologies of Japan”. About 100 students were attended to this lecture.

Piano & Violin Concert

We are pleased to announce that there will be a piano & violin concert organized by Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research, in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan and the Russian Federation in Abu Dhabi. Mrs. Olga Kuznetsova, a pianist and wife of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation, and Ms. Hisako Tokue, a Japanese violinist, will perform Japanese, Russian and Arab music. Admission is free.

Hisako Tokue Profile:
Born in Tokyo, Hisako Tokue began to play the violin at the age of three.
She went on to study at Toho Music Conservatory and made her debut at the
age of 12 with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, playing Lalo's Symphonic Espagnole. The celebrated Russian violinist Leonid Kogan invited Miss Tokue at the age of 20 to the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.
She has received many musical awards including the Mainichi &NHK music
contest in Tokyo, the Aspen (USA) international music competition, the Rong Thibaud international competition in France, and the Paganini competition in Italy.
She has toured with the English guitarist John Williams and friends for
many times, performing at Barbican, the Loyal Festival Hall, and the Loyal Alvert Hall in London as well as numerous other concert halls in the UK and Ireland.
In 2006, she has toured to Virginia State and Kennedy Center in Washington
DC, USA.

Japanese Drum Concert by YOSORO

YOSORO, a Japanese drum group, is arriving soon in Abu Dhabi to perform a concert. The group, which consists of 4 artists, will present beautiful and powerful sounds of Japanese drums in harmony with other Japanese traditional instruments such as a three-string banjo, transverse folk bamboo flute, and twenty five-string zither. The concert is under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Supreme President of Family Development Foundation and President of Women’s Union, with the support of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage as an organizer, in cooperation with Japan Foundation and the Embassy of Japan. Admission is free.
Mr. Manjiro is the Second Son of Mr. Uzaemon Ichimura who is designated as one of the Living Human Treasures in Japan. Mr. Manjiro is an outstanding Kabuki performer, who primarily plays a female role in the theater where only males are allowed to perform, thus, males usually play female characters.
