Message from OKANIWA Ken, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the United Arab Emirates

Assalam Alaykum and Hajimemashite!
It is a great honor and privilege to be posted as the Ambassador of Japan to the United Arab Emirates.
Japan and the UAE have consistently maintained excellent relations from before the latter’s foundation. The relationship that initially focused and developed in the field of oil has evolved in many other areas. Japan is expanding collaboration with the UAE in its efforts to promote economic diversification, technological innovation and sustainability.
Reflecting the importance of the UAE and our shared vision for the future, the two Governments established the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI). Since 2022 when Japan and the UAE celebrated 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations, high-level officials have engaged in discussions under CSPI to promote further cooperation on peace and stability, economic prosperity and sustainable development.
Japan and the UAE’s bilateral relationship has been supported by long-standing friendship between our two peoples. With the exception of the period during the COVID 19 pandemic, the two-way exchange between two countries is following on upward trend, particularly in bilateral business and tourism. I wish to do my utmost to further promote our ties, building upon such achievements.
At a personal level, this is my first posting in the Middle East region. The first few weeks of my stay in the UAE have been full of discoveries. I am pleasantly surprised by the common aspects of our cultures and amazed by the high pace of development.
I look forward to meeting and working together with Emiratis from diverse backgrounds as well as to visiting various parts of the country during my tenure.
