Expanding frontiers of cooperation upon half-century’s solid foundation!
Assalam Alaykum! I am Akio ISOMATA, Ambassador of Japan to the United Arab Emirates.
I have served in Asia, Europe, North America so far on the Japanese diplomatic service. Not having had a chance to serve in this part of the world in the past, I am greatly pleased and excited to come to the UAE this time. Starting afresh, I sincerely hope I can learn a lot from as many friends as possible in both countries, and can make as much contribution as possible to the promotion of friendly and cooperative relationship between Japan and the UAE. As I am fond of travelling, I intend to travel in the country and neighboring areas extensively. I may be seeing you on a desert safari, too!
Cooperation between Japan and the UAE have recently been evolving into a variety of areas based on longstanding cooperation in the field of oil exploration, production and trade, such as: infrastructure; renewable energy; outer space; defense industries; agriculture and food; medical and health care; retail business; tourism; contents and creative industries; sports and much more. There are areas in which we are already seeing significant progress, while there are also areas where we would like to see new or renewed development from now on. I believe potentials for the development of our bilateral relations are infinitely huge, considering the accumulation of our cooperative efforts so far on one hand, and strategic advantage the UAE embraces on the other hand, such as political stability of the society, openness of the economy towards the world, geographical feature as a hub of trade and transportation, etc.
It is also important that the two countries continue to cooperate in the field of education and human resources development as we consolidate everlasting, trustful relationship where the peoples of both countries can engage in in-depth exchanges and feel closer to each other. I had a chance to meet high school students from the UAE who graduated from Japanese School in Abu Dhabi and are currently enrolled in a high school in Tokyo. I was very much inspired, greatly encouraged as well, to see them living in a totally different cultural context and studying in high spirits in Japan, each with a dream of engaging in mechanical engineering, political science, etc., in the future. Youths are the hope for the future. Cooperation in the field of education such as this example can only be realized with the understanding and assistance of many people concerned, but we should continue to invest in this endeavor and make best efforts for the future of both our nations.
In Expo 2020 Dubai, Japan Pavilion is one of the most favorite places for visitors from within and out of the UAE. People’s interest in Japan now goes far beyond trade and business or traditional culture, overreaching creative arts, design, contents, etc., and even to Japanese cuisine. We will mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year. I would like to celebrate this milestone year in a way that enables us to explore and expand new frontiers for bilateral cooperation based upon solid foundation of the past 50 years’ relations. I will do my best to work for that goal in a spirit of challenge, and your wisdom and support is indispensable.
Let us stand united and work together for our future!
