Waiving of visas for nationals of the Kingdom of Thailand wishing to enter Japan

The Government of Japan, with a view to facilitating travel as well as cultural and commercial relations between Japan and the Kingdom of Thailand, extends the implementation of the following measures until June 30, 2022 (including this day) concerning the waiving of visas for nationals of the Kingdom of Thailand wishing to enter Japan:


1. Nationals of the Kingdom of Thailand in possession of valid ordinary passports of the Kingdom of Thailand who wish to enter Japan with the intention of staying there for a period not exceeding fifteen (15) consecutive days may enter the territory of Japan without obtaining visas.

2. The waiver of the visa requirements under paragraph 1 above will not apply to nationals of the Kingdom of Thailand in possession of valid ordinary passports of the Kingdom of Thailand which are not IC passports (or passports with IC chips with store biometric information including a digital image of the passport photograph).

3. Nationals of the Kingdom of Thailand in possession of valid ordinary passports of the Kingdom of Thailand which are not IC passports will be required to obtain visas in advance.

4. Nationals of the Kingdom of Thailand in possession of valid ordinary passports of the Kingdom of Thailand which are not IC passports will be refused entry to Japan when they do not possess visas.

5. The waiver of the visa requirements under paragraph 1 above will not apply to nationals of the Kingdom of Thailand who desire to enter the territory of Japan with the intention of seeking employment or of exercising a profession or other occupation (including public entertainment and sport for remunerative purposes).

6. Nationals of the Kingdom of Thailand who wish to enter Japan will be obliged to observe the laws and regulations of Japan.

7. The Government of Japan reserves the right to suspend temporarily the application of all or any part of the foregoing measures for reasons of public policy including those relating to public security, order and health. Any such suspension or the lifting of the suspension will be notified immediately to the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand through the diplomatic channel.

8. The Government of Japan reserves the right to refuse entry into or stay in Japan of the nationals of the Kingdom of Thailand if it considers that they would impair the interests of Japan.

9. The Government of Japan, when it terminates the foregoing measures, will give two (2) months’ written notice in advance to the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand.
