On 28 February 2015, Japanese harp ‘KOTO’ performance by Mr. Showa Yamato, in collaboration with Urasenke Abu Dhabi Study Group, was held at Emirates Palace. On 1 March 2015, ‘KOTO’ was demonstrated at Japan Festival organized by Sakura Club in UAE University.

On 18 and 19 December 2014, Ms. Diane Kichijitsu, traditional comedy storytelling (RAKUGO) artist gave performances and workshops in the Japanese Ambassador’s residence and Al Wahda Mall in Abu Dhabi. The audience enjoyed the world of imagination the British performer created through her masterly and humorous storytelling.

9~13 November 2014 Japan Week in Zayed University

Between 9 and 13 November, 2014, the Embassy of Japan organised a ‘Japan Week’ with Zayed University in its female campus. Students of the University had opportunities to discover the language and culture of Japan through attending events such as intensive Japanese language course, workshops on Japanese culture, Kendo demonstration, and Japanese film viewing. During the Japan Week, the Embassy also organised ‘Hiroshima Nagasaki Peace Exhibition’ for the purpose of conveying to the young generation horrors of nuclear weapons and preciousness of peace. On 13 November 2014, Ambassador and Mrs. Kamo paid a visit to Zayed University to attend a ceremony for the donation of around 100 titles of Japanese books with the presence of Dr. Reyadh Al Muhaidib, Vice President of the University, and Dr. Abdul Mohsen Onsi, Chief Academic Officer of the University. They also attended some events that took place on the same day, and met some students from the Japan Club and those who participated in the events.

Ambassador Kamo gave a lecture titled ‘<Report from the UAE> What you need as a future global citizen’ at Doshisha University, Kyoto, on 24 September 2014. The audience, whose majority was students, showed great interest in the UAE, a forerunner of the globalization.

On 15 June 2014, Mr. Kenji Hirata, Chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of Japan, attended a celebration ceremony in honor of 20 students who have completed their 3 years Japanese Language Course. In his remarks, Mr. Hirata congratulated the students and praised their achievements.

On 6 May 2014, Yoshihiko Kamo, Ambassador of Japan, attended a ceremony for the donation of around 500 titles of Japanese books at the Petroleum Institute. The Books were exhibited in Abu Dhabi Book Fair 2012 and 2013,.

The annual event “Abu Dhabi International Book Fair” was held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from April 30th - May 5th. In the Japanese booth, around 250 titles were displayed with a variety of subjects and topics such as manga, anime, origami (Paper Folding), Japanese foods, Japanese language, mentality and history.
The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair has become a good opportunity to introduce the attraction of Japanese culture towards the people of UAE.

On April 14th 2014 Ms. Oki, Ikebana Master(Ohara) presented “Ikebana” Demonstration for spouses of Ambassadors from more than 30 delegations at the Residence of Ambassador of Japan. The Master showed various techniques of “Ikebana” in front of honorable guests and answered their questions on “Ikebana” and Japanese culture, which inspired and amazed the guests.

On March 19, 2014, Urasenke Chadou Abu Dhabi Study Group, in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan, participated in the International day at Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. The Group offered Japanese tea to 120 visitors at the Japan booth. And some members of the Group impressed the audience with Kimono at the World Fashion Show.

On March 11, 2014, the 2nd Japanese Language Speech Contest, organized by the Embassy of Japan, was hosted by Khalifa University to share knowledge of the Japanese culture through learning the Japanese language. The event was attended by H.E. Yoshihiko Kamo, Ambassador of Japan, and Dr. Tod A. Laursen, President, Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research, to encourage Japanese language learners from various schools and academic institutions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Students were required to write a text, composed in Japanese, about topic of their own.

On February 26, 2014, a reception for the Applied Technology High School (ATHS) students was held at the official residence of the Ambassador of Japan, as an cultural activity organized by the Embassy of Japan. The students, who had their experience from the educational tours in Japan last summer, gave group presentations with a good command of Japanese to other attendants.
